Medical education and equipment in Bosnia

MCAI, in partnership with Lions Clubs International’s ‘Gift for Living’ appeal, has supported numerous child health projects in both entities of Bosnia & Herzegovina. Equipment for emergency care and life support has been provided to Banja Luka in the Republika Srpska, and to Sarajevo, Mostar, Bihac and Gorazde in the Confederation. As well as providing equipment vital to the care of children and babies, MCAI has introduced educational input for doctors and nurses, helping them to raise the standard of emergency care which they provide in Bosnia  & Herzegovina. The charity has introduced the APLS course (Advanced Paediatric Life Support), which is welcomed by Bosnian healthcare professionals, and now runs with a Faculty of local doctors, thereby making it sustainable into the future.

Our plans

Building on the success of the APLS course, MCAI plans to introduce a similar course, focussed on the care of women in pregnancy and childbirth. This is known as the MOET course (Management of Obstetric Emergencies & Trauma). We also hope to provide the five major maternity units in Bosnia & Herzegovina with equipment vital to the care of mothers and their newborn babies.
