Bosnia & Herzegovina

MCAI has very strong links with Bosnia & Herzegovina. The charity was founded in 1995 in response to the suffering of children, as well as adults, brought about by the civil war which took place there from 1992 to 1995. The provision of health care in the country was severely affected by the war, and, despite massive input from various aid agencies, much remains to be done.

Out of a population of 4.5 million, almost 1 adult in 3 is unemployed, and the current global recession has further worsened the country’s prospects of economic development.

Subsequent to the war, Bosnia & Herzegovina has been divided into two entities, namely the Republika Srpska and the Confederation.
