Portable midwife kits and training manikins set sail for The Gambia
We’ve just sent out another lot of medical equipment from our Nottingham office to The Gambia. Most of the equipment will be made up into portable midwife kits. Each kit will include items such as: bag and mask breathing systems to help start breathing in the small but significant number of newborn babies who do not breathe when they are born. In addition there are stethoscopes to check the heart rate, vacuum systems to help deliver babies and suction units to help mothers who are fitting.
The portable midwife kits will be going to Basse Major Health Centre, where we have trained many midwives, nurses, doctors and traditional birth attendants.
We have also sent resuscitation baby manikins for Brikama Major Health centre where they will be used as part of the training provided by us and the Advanced Life Support Group.
