We've just heard the brilliant news that 500 birthing kits have made their way to The Gambia.
The fact that they have made it there is thanks to an outstanding group of Queens University Belfast students, through Belfast Medsin, ably led by newly qualified doctor Gemma Owens.
Medsin had the brilliant idea of running an event where volunteers could put together a pack of all the medical equipment needed for a safe delivery. This proved such a good idea that the group had to limit the numbers who could help and on the 14th October the kits arrived in The Gambia. A few weeks later where they will be a real life saver to every seriously ill baby and mother who benefit from them.
A massive thank you to Dr Owens and all her helpers! If you've got a creative way to help our work email us at fundraising@mcai.org.uk. You can find more pictures of the day on our facebook page by clicking here, or searching 'Maternal and Childhealth Advocacy International' on the site.
